It ignores the frantic energy of nearby Nanjing Road in favor of a controlled, theatrical experience that the city’s other high-profile dining rooms simply do not attempt. You go here for the immersion, which is far more deliberate than the breezy, crowd-pleasing style found at the grand hotels lining the waterfront. It remains the only place in Shanghai where the environment is as carefully composed as the menu.
