Mako Chicago Reviews

Mako was my first omakase experience and I'm glad it was. I love restaurants that are nondescript on the outside, but when you walk in, the ambiance takes your breath away. Mako is super chic and modern, with one huge, golden art piece (what is it?!?) in the center. A unique thing I really loved and noticed was the music - it was a mix but I liked that they added chill hip-hop & rap on the playlist as it felt very ~Chicago~ I thought this omakase was decently paced. I never felt rushed and each course had its time to be savored. You could tell each chef was dedicated to his craft. The waiters were super attentive and we even got a refill on the tea, which was GORGEOUS!! I really loved each mini menu of what you got during that round, it was a sweet detail. Each dish had a beautiful presentation and I especially loved the ones where it incorporated nature aspects. The chopstick rest was also a pebble and I was in LOVE with the little details. The nigiri fish were fresh, but I loved the non-fish courses as well. The chef also added some subtle flavors to some nigiri pieces, which worked beautifully with the fish. My favorites were : aka anago (sea water eel), saba (blue mackerel) and of course, the toro. The pork belly was also incredible, flavorful, and so tender it melted in your mouth.

Lovely experience. Highly recommend the wine and sake pairing.

This was an incredible experience I’d recommend to anyone wants to try a Michelin omakase. Came here with 8 of my friends for an incredible amount of 16 rounds of sushi with the sake/wine pairing. Everything paired perfectly, the courses were not just tasty but also adventurous with unique items you don’t normally get in an omakase. All of us had an incredible time drinking beautifully paired white wines and sakes with perfectly and masterfully prepared sushi. This is a 10/10 experience I’d recommend to anyone who wants to try omakase with or without friends, date night? Fine dining experience? It’s all here, affordable and incredibly tasteful! Thank you to the team and the chefs for an experience to remember!
